Being a therapist is truly humbling. I am honoured every day by those who are willing to share the darkest and brightest parts of themselves with me. I know counselling can feel scary, and sometimes it asks us to move through emotions, thoughts, and memories we have worked long and hard to avoid.
Counselling can provide a safe place to begin your journey through the pain and into the life you were intended for. There is no right or wrong way to begin. You start with one step: asking for help. We are not meant to walk this path on our own. Allowing me into your pain, joy, and sorrow is a gift that I promise to treat with care. On my journey I have been blessed to witness the fruits of personal healing, and have come to not only believe, but to know, there is always hope. "No matter how far down the scale we've gone"- I believe each person has the right and ability to choose what part of their legacy they bring forward and what part they leave behind. Each of us are intended for and created to experience wholeness and comfort within ourselves and our relationships.

Professional Certification & Membership
My name is Serena, and I hold a Master of Science in Health Promotion and Socio-Behavioural Sciences from the University of Alberta and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Calgary. I have been working in the field of mental health and addictions since 2004, gaining experience in various approaches and capacities. My work includes counselling, community development, harm reduction, and program development and evaluation.
I have collaborated with individuals facing a range of addictive behaviours, concurrent disorders, and other behavioural and emotional concerns, such as low self-esteem, insecure attachment styles, employment issues, relationship challenges, family of origin issues, trauma, and grief and loss.
Guided by a bio-psycho-social-spiritual approach to healing and an eclectic theoretical orientation, I focus on the underlying causes of self-defeating and self-destructive thoughts and behaviours. Each case is approached uniquely; I develop a treatment plan in collaboration with my clients based on their specific needs. My approach integrates components of Behavioural Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, and staged trauma treatment, including grounding and emotional regulation skills training. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and am a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), Certified Partner Trauma Therapist (CPTT) and Certified Safe and Sound Protocol provider with Unyte Integrated Listening.
